The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Fit prosthetic ocular devices (eye glasses, all types of contact lenses, low vision aids, etc.)

- Perform tests and measurements required to fit and evaluate the above (keratometer; profile analyzer; shadow graph; pupillary distance; knowledgeable in optics as it pertains to different lenses; lensometer).
- Place orders, and process associated paperwork, for glasses, contact lenses, low vision aids.
- Determine accuracy of optical products received, and maintains responsibility for quality assurance of optical devices, other than for error in refractometry.
- Assist patients select frames.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by Tuesday, July 02, 2013. Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements for positions above the GS-5 level. Experience Requirement: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled (Health Technician (Optician). One year of specialized experience is r! equired that is equivalent to the GS-6 level in Federal service to meet! the minimum qualifications for GS-7. Specialized experience is defined in the OPM qualification standard as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience may have been obtained in a medical/health environment where the employee typically performs nonprofessional supportive work for Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, and Surgical Coordinators. Specialized experience may have been obtained in a medical/health environment where duties may have involved the fitting of prosthetic ocular devices; testing and measurements required to fit and evaluate eye glasses, contact lenses, low vision aids, etc.; ordering ocular products; providing quality assurance for optical devices; assisting patients with frame selection; adjusting/repairing prosthetic ocular devices, and similar.
