Degree and area of specialization:
Masters degree in Social Work, Counseling/Clinical Psychology, or related mental
health field.
LICENSE REQUIRED:
Licensed or must be license eligible to practice in the state of Wisconsin within two years of hire.
License/certification:
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:Strongly preferred qualities of the candidate include:
1) minimum of three years work experience in a mental health setting; 2) demonstrated expertise in clinical case management; 3)
administrative and technological skills required to effectively document in an Electronic Health Record, and maintain a case management
tracking system; 4) demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple clinical situations and to
coordinate these efforts! as a part of a multidisciplinary team; 5) experience identify! ing resources within in-network and out-of-network
insurance plans; 6) demonstrated awareness, knowledge, and skills to interact effectively with persons representing a wide range of diverse
backgrounds, namely socio-economic, students of color, LGBTQ, and international students; 7) experience in college mental health, crisis
assessment, brief intervention, confidentiality requirements, and referral 8) self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional
ideals; and 9) excellent oral and written communication skills; 10) experience with eating disorders.
Principal duties:
Provide management services to a growing population of undergraduate and graduate students with
complex mental health needs through coordination of care between campus and community resources. In addition to direct service, this
position will consult with campus partners that serve students including, but not limited to the Division of Student Life (DOSL! ) and the
McBurney Disability Resource Center.
Specific roles of the case manager will include:
I. 65% Act as a direct resource to UHS staff regarding students needing community mental health referrals, including hospitalization and
discharge planning. Focus will be on implementing a plan to follow up on all students referred to the community and providing long-term
monitoring of their status when necessary. Duties include: 1) Facilitate the referral of students from a brief therapy model at UHS to
longer term/specialized care and resources in the community; 2) Create opportunities for students served by the case management program to
develop new skills and enhanced ability to function independently; 3) Create linkages with Madison community resources to refer students
with significant mental health needs and who have inadequate or are without insurance coverage; 4) Provide case management consultation to
UHS psychiatry! providers working with students who have been referred to community me! ntal health providers and who continue to receive
psychiatry services at UHS; and 5) Knowledge of individual insurance plans in order to best advocate for the best interest of the student.
II. 15% Act as liaison between UHS and campus offices that serve student to coordinate efforts in dealing with at-risk students with complex
mental health needs. Duties include: 1) Consult with DOSL office on students for whom significant mental health issues are present or
suspected; 2) Act as consultant to campus offices to develop appropriate reentry plans when a student has left the University for mental
health reasons and has asked to be readmitted; and 3) Serve as needed on multidisciplinary teams within UHS and on the campus.
III. 10% Collaborate with the university to track students who are leaving the University for mental health reasons, assess reasons for
withdrawal, and develop new initiatives to improve retention among this populat! ion.
IV. 15% Administrative duties include: 1) Follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical
guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA; 2) Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations;
3) Attend staff, project team, and workgroup meetings; 4) Attend Mental Health Services sponsored professional development activities; 5)
Serve on internal and external committees; and 6) Other responsibilities as assigned.
A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
