This position is a multidisciplinary position
and can be filled as a Psychiatrist, Nurse, Social Worker or Psychologist. This
announcement is for Psychologists. The Milwaukee Veterans Affairs Medical
Center is recruiting for a proven leader to serve as Co-Division Manager of the
Mental Health Division providing assistance and direction to our full continuum
of mental health programs. Our Mental Health Division encompasses the Milwaukee
VAMC and four Community Based Outpatient Clinics (approximately 350 employees).
The medical center is a highly affiliated, 1A, tertiary care center and offers
a full spectrum of comprehensive medical, surgical and behavioral health care.
Applicants for this position need to have
significant leadership experience as well as a mental health care background.
This position is open to all! of the four core mental health professional
disciplines: nu! rsing, psychiatry, psychology, and social work with demonstrated
success in managerial, clinical, research, and/or teaching endeavors. A Psychiatrist or Psychologist Co-Division
Manager will hold joint appointment and departmental leadership position with the
Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine.
Due
to the complexity of the mental health programs, the Mental Health Division is
lead by Co-Division Managers; the applicant will partner with the existing
Co-Manager who is a psychologist. The Mental Health Division includes the
following programs:
The
Acute Mental Health program at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center offers both
locked and unlocked inpatient treatment units, which provide acute mental
health care and alcohol and drug detoxification treatment. In addition, consult
liaison services are provided throughout the medical center.
The
Mental Health Out! patient programs located in Milwaukee, as well as in four
CBOC's, offer a wide range of services including Clozaril Clinic, Crisis
Intervention, Family Therapy, Geropsychiatry, Group Therapy, Individual
Psychotherapy, Marital Counseling, Medication Management, Methadone
Maintenance, Neuropsychological Assessment, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Treatment, Primary Mental Health Care, Psychological Testing, Substance Abuse
Treatment and Aftercare, and Women's Sexual Trauma treatment.
The
Mental Health Rehabilitation Sections are designed to meet the needs of
veterans with a wide variety of psychosocial concerns. The following types of
programs are provided: Substance Abuse Rehabilitation, PTSD and Mental Health
Rehabilitation are provided in our 204 bed Domiciliary; various homeless
initiatives, including HUDNASH and grant and per diem partnerships; and our
Veterans Industry program provides vocational rehabilitat! ion designed to
reintegrate veterans into rewarding employment.
Major Duties:
- Leads the establishment of effective relationships within the division in a
- Demonstrates substantial and continuing
controlling and integrated program.
- Makes decisions which reflect the
Integrated Service Network (VISN) and total health care system.
- Plans, organizes, develops, implements,
support/administrative programs.
- Participates in the annual budget estimate
- Provides leadership for strategic planning,
of Division activities and provides input into hospital-wide activities.
- Serves on Medical Center/VISN CouncilÂ's and
Work Schedule: Full-time Days with 24
hour responsibilities.

authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Must possess a Doctoral Degree in
Psychological Association (APA) in the specialty area of the degree must
coincide with the position. AND Must have successfully
completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been
accredited! by APA.
- Must be proficient in basic written and !
- Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted
Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
GRADE
REQUIREMENTS:
To
qualify at the GS-15 grade level, in addition to meeting all the basic
requirements listed above you must have at least 1 full year of professional
psychologist experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, and must fully
meet the KSAs for that level
which are knowledge of, and ability to apply, appropriate scientific
methods in the design and execution of basic and applied research, ability to
coordinate work across multiple settings, and ability to convey scientific
concepts and methodological principles to individuals with diverse levels of
technical expertise.
In addition,
you must demonstrate the following professional KSAs and demonstra! te the
potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk ( *
). At this level senior psychologist program managers have very broad
responsibility for multiple programs or have responsibility for a large service
organization that is of considerable scope, size, and complexity. They have
full responsibility for oversight of the professional practice of psychology in
large medical centers, generally with many psychologists, and ensure the
highest quality of psychological care provided to veterans throughout the
facility and its affiliated clinics.
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: In addition can demonstrate the following KSAs:
KSA1: Skill in managing and directing the work
of large, complex organizational units and in applying effective management
practices.
