Come Join Our Team of Chaplains who provide a complete range of spiritual care ministries to veterans and their families. Such ministry will encompass all aspects of pastoral care, assuring that the religious, spiritual, moral and ethical issues faced by veterans are addressed as part of the holistic care provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Chaplains work in an interfaith environment as members of a pluralistic chaplaincy.
The VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin permanent part-time (4 hours/week) Roman Catholic Staff Chaplain. The incumbent serves and as Chaplain in performing religious services, instruction, and administrative; and pastoral ministry work. Be responsible for providing spiritual and pastoral care to patients and their families. Provides worship services and sacraments to meet the religious needs of patients. M! ust have part-time ecclesiastical endorsement by the Roman Cat! holic Archdiocese for the Military Services USA, in Washington, DC. Work schedule are Friday and Saturday, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, hours may vary. Relocation allowance is not authorized The work is primarily sedentary, although some light physical effort may be required.

Endorsement by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Service USA DUTIES:
Establish periods for public worship. Conducts weekly/regularly scheduled services including devotions, sermons, and arranging for the atmosphere and symbolism of worship. Responsible for planning and direction of the Chaplain Service and its coordination with other Services with the Medical Center. Provides for the religious and spir! itual needs of Veterans according to their needs and desires. Leads worship services, provide sacraments and ministers to family members. The chaplain provides for the specific religious needs of Roman Catholic Veterans, while assuring that all patients have opportunities for free exercise of religion. Provide extensive and intensive pastoral counseling of patients and pastoral support for families. Provide care as part of interdisciplinary teams in several highly specialized areas of medical care, including: addictions counseling, surgery, post traumatic stress, palliative care, psychiatry, renal dialysis and intensive care. Serve as spiritual counselor to patients on ethical and moral matters including problems of conscience and family and marital differences. The chaplain gives special attention to religious and spiritual needs of patients in crisis. will locate other chaplains and/or persons from the community to provide for patients' religious needs that he or she cann! ot meet. Evaluate patients' needs and documents care provided in electr! onic medical records. Maintain relationships with the larger community which support the Medical Center mission; and responds to emergency needs of patients and family members. The work emphasizes an ecumenical, team approach to assignments. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In order to be qualified for this position, you must possess all of the following: Ecclesiastical Endorsement: An ecclesiastical endorsement, dated within the past 12 months. Ecclesiastical endorsements for Roman Catholics are issued only by the Archdiocese for the Military Service USA in Washington, DC. The endorsing official is Bishop Richard Higgins, phone number 202-269-9100 ext. 21. Endorsements must be specifically for part-time VA Chaplaincy. Endorsement for the Armed Forces on the military endorsement form (2088) is not acceptable for VA Chaplaincy. Endorsements for the Federal Bureau of Prisons or for the Association of professional Chaplains or other groups are not valid for VA. Basic Educatio! nal Requirement: The degree of Master of Divinity from an accredited institution OR a bachelor's degree plus at least 70 hours of graduate course work at an accredited institution which included at least 20 semester hours in pastoral ministry; 20 semester hours in any combination of theology, ethics, and philosophy of religion; 20 semester hours in the study of sacred writings, including the study of languages in which sacred writings are written; and 10 semester hours in religious history and/or world religions Clinical Pastoral Education: Completion of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education, in program(s) accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE); or the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP), or the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. 800 hours of supervised ministry in a formal educational program that incorporated both ministry formation and pastoral care skills development can be considered as equivalent training.! The most common equivalencies are internships/field study during semin! ary, and diaconal study during and/or after seminary. You must give a narrative description of all training you would like considered towards equivalency. The description must include the beginning and ending dates of training, the location at which the supervised ministry was performed, the number of hours per week, a description of how the ministry was supervised, including a description of a peer-group if any. Experience: In addition to the required Clinical Pastoral Education applicants must have at least three years of ministry experience. At least two years of this experience must have followed completion of the Master of Divinity or equivalent. Completion of a doctoral degree directly related to pastoral ministry may be substituted for one year of this experience. Ministry experience obtained during graduate education will be given credit for up to one year of the required experience. Experience prior to graduate education will not count toward the minimum experience! requirement. Applicants must have at least one year of ministry experience that has demonstrated the following abilities:
a. Ability to serve as consultant or expert to a multidisciplinary treatment team.
b. In-depth knowledge of related professional fields, particularly in the behavioral sciences.
c. Understanding of, and ability to respond to, the particular concerns and issues pertaining to treatment of Veterans.
d. Knowledge of the structure, regulations, practices, and programs of health care delivery systems.
e. Ability to interpret and apply a body of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in professional practice. English Language Competency: All applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English. Selective Service Registration: By law, all males born after December 31, 1959 must have registered with the Selective Service (the military draft) or have a valid exemption.

All
applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be evaluated by
the Board of Excepted Service Examiners to determine the degree to which the
documents provided demonstrate that the applicant has the following
competencies:
Providing pastoral care in a hospital setting to patients, relatives and significant others in accordance with standards of cognate groups such as the Association of Professional Chaplains, the Joint Commission.
Assuring that patients have opportunity for free exercise of religion and preventing proselytizing from any source.
Utilizing information technology including documenting care in electronic medical records.
Advising interdisciplinary teams about patient needs and incorporating spiritual care into holistic health care.
Providing care and advice on difficult and complex issues in accordance with principles ! and practices of clinical and moral ethics.
Performing sacraments, ! rituals, ordinances, and worship service as appropriate to meet the needs of patients of the faith group by which the individual is endorsed.
Dealing effectively with diversity. Providing culturally competent care.
Taking initiative to seek methods to improve care and to lead work groups, committees, teams
Applicants will be given a numerical score between 70 and 100. The numerical score is based on the totality of relevant competencies. It is not determined by summing scores on each competency. Those Veterans who are entitled to preference will get either 5 or 10 points added. Applicants will be referred to the medical center for final consideration in score order. The medical center must select from among the applicants with the 3 highest scores.
