ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE PRESCRIBER

JOB DUTIES

Under general direction of the Service Medical Director and in accordance with approved practice guidelines to provide medical care to assigned patients; to perform and document physical examinations; to obtain and document patient health histories; to make referrals for routine, urgent or emergency treatment; to order, interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests; to identify and assess patients’ clinical problems and health care needs; to formulate a nursing diagnosis and health care plan based on the patient’s condition; to prescribe and administer medications, treatments and immunizations, as necessary; to maintain appropriate and timely medical record documentation; to provide health education to patients and their families; to participate in quality assurance, staff development, and professional review activities; to participate on committees; to assist in formulating policies and proce! dures; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Applicants quality and quantity of experience gained after satisfaction of the educational requirements will be carefully considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the advanced principles and practices of nursing and patient care; skill in patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, and planning and evaluation; ability to use sound judgment in making independent decisions; ability to follow and give instructions; ability to serve as a role model and preceptor for nursing and other health care students; ability to collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists and other health professionals regarding patient care; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with patients, physicians, health professionals and others.

Education: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Nursing from a program approved by the American Nurses Association for Nurse Practitioners or Clinical Nurse Speciali! sts. Current Wisconsin Licensure as a Registered Nurse and as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber. Current Federal Drug Enforcement Administration registration upon appointment. Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC or equivalent) at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment required.

Behavioral Health Division (Full-Time / Part-Time Requirements) - Physical Care Service Assignment: Certification in Family Practice or Adult Health required. Family Practice certification preferred. Adult Health considered based on experience working with both adult and adolescent populations. Psychiatric Service Assignment: Certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist required; Pool Employment â€" Family Practice, Adult Health or Psychiatric/Mental Health certification required. Appointment will be made based on current physical care or psychiatric staffing need. Pool applicants holding Women'! s Health/Nurse Mid-Wife certification may be considered for assignment ! to the BHD Outpatient Clinic (staffing need is approximately 8 hours/month), when needed.

Sheriff’s Department / House of Corrections (Full-Time / Part-Time Requirements) - Medical Service Assignment: Certification in Family Practice or Adult Health required. Mental Health Assignment: Certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist required with prescriptive authority; Women’s Health/ Nurse Mid-Wife Assignment: Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or by the National Certification Corporation in Obstetric/ Gynecology or Women’s Health as a Nurse Practitioner is required. Nurse Mid-Wives require certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) as well as prescriptive authority. Pool Employment â€"Family Practice, Adult Health, Psychiatric/Mental Health or Women’s Health/ Nurse Mid-Wife certification required. Appointment will be made based on current Medical care, Mental Hea! lth and Women’s Health staffing needs.

THE ORIGINAL EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the State of Wisconsin.
