The Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively w! ithin a multidisciplinary psychiatric team and with medical staff, is responsible for providing care to psychiatric patients in an outpatient clinical setting. He/she demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic mental illness. He/she provides care and educates patients and their families on psychiatric treatment and plans of care. He/she intervenes in acute episodes of illness. He/she develops criteria for and participates in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of care. He/she plans and participates in learning opportunities for residents, interns, medical students and nursing students. He/she works with administrative, nursing, physician, and university faculty to assure quality patient care and to promote education and research. This APP will practice in UW Health Psychiatry Clinics and UW Health Medical Clinics. Core work hours are 8:00am - 5pm, Monday - Friday, with no call responsibility.
Qualifi! cations
If NP,
- State of Wisconsin NP licensur! e
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Master's Degree in Nursing with specialty preparation as a Nurse Practitioner in Mental Health; certification in Mental Health
- If PA, Graduate from an accredited PA program and successful completion of NCCPA examination.
- Extensive knowledge of psychiatric assessment, differential diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and management and treatment of acute and chronic mental illness
- Two years of relevant clinical experience preferred
- CPR certified
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Professional demeanor
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to prioritize tasks and complete work in a timely manner
This is a full-time salaried position. Core hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - 8 am to 5 pm.
