SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse (RN) functions under the direct supervision of the Clinical Team Manager and is a fully integrated member of the CSP clinical team. The RN takes responsibility for arranging and providing nursing functions as prescribed by the psychiatrists and other doctors of the team’s consumers. S/he also provides comprehensive case ! management services to a caseload and backs up individual team! members or the whole team when assigned. Primary duties include implementing nursing protocols as prescribed, providing day-to day direct services to consumers, writing culturally competent assessments, treatment plans, reviews, daily progress notes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL
Bachelors Degree and RN license plus clinical experience
or
RN license plus experience & training which demonstrates an unusually high competence in working cross-culturally and having connections to communities / cultures in Dane County which have resources and attributes needed by the CSP’s current / potential clientele
and
Sound clinical skills
Commitment to work toward improving cultural competence as demonstrated by: valuing difference/diversity; recognizing personal limitations in one’s competencies and expertise, having the desire to improve in these areas
Ability to assess progress and encourage positive change, taking into account cultural a! nd clinical considerations, and consumers’ own wishes and definitions of success
Demonstrated ability to provide case management services to people who have severe and persistent mental illnesses
Strong commitment to principles of normalization and to facilitating consumer participation in their own treatment / service planning and provision
Knowledge of psychotropic medications and nursing protocols relevant to community psychiatric nursing
Good documentation skills
Valid Drivers License with access to car and willingness to use it for transporting consumers
PREFERRED
Masters Degree
Demonstrated expertise and experience in applying clinical knowledge in a culturally sensitive manner as to have a positive influence in cross cultural mental health and AODA service delivery
Special areas of expertise in addition to nursing such as: AODA, vocational, bilingual
Knowledge of methods and theories of psycho social rehabilitation app! roach assessment / evaluation tools useful in the rehabilitation approa! ch
Experience and ability with computer databases, particularly MacIntosh systems

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical (High Responsibility- 80% of effort)
Carry a clinical caseload and provide, or arrange for provision of, all needed services for each person on that caseload. Ensure that services are culturally competent / sensitive, that they promote the principles of normalization and consumer participation, and that they comply with HFS63.
Develop an in-depth assessment; comprehensive treatment plan; and timely reviews, updates, and revisions as required by code as needed for each consumer on caseload, taking into account cultural and personal attributes and characteristics.
Maintain contact with consumers to a degree sufficient to monitor and assist progress and in compliance with treatment plan methodology. Build relationships through which case manager and consumer work together in such areas as: supportive psychotherapy, AODA services, acti! vities of daily living training, vocational endeavors, working on finances and budgeting, obtaining and maintaining housing, and connecting to one’s own community and cultural context as he or she wishes, assistance with legal problems and obligations.
Administer medications and monitor for effects and side effects. Report observations to the psychiatrist.
Nursing diagnosis and evaluation of consumer’s medical and mental status, progress, any problems, and share opinions with the team.
With other team members, assist consumers in gaining access to the health care system, and act as the liaison between physician and consumer to promote understanding of health care problems, needs, and procedures.
Fully assess each new consumer’s health needs, and revise and addend assessments of all consumers in treatment reviews, taking into account cultural and personal aspects and attributes.
With attention to required time lines, maintain records of contacts and! services, clinical charts, and correspondence, complete all paperwork ! and records required by administrative code, good medical practice, and county contract. Assist in modifying record keeping and paperwork so it allows for / encourages inclusion of data about one’s cultural and spiritual aspects.
Develop and implement treatment plans, evaluate and modify them each six months, or more often if indicated.
Attend program meetings, team meetings, treatment planning and morning report, functioning as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
Assist with ordering medications and medical supplies, packaging, record-keeping and dispensing. Arrange for finances as it pertains to medications.
Provide supervision to RN nursing students placed at Fordem.
Responsible for monitoring and updating nursing forms at Fordem.
Programmatic (Medium Responsibility-20% of effort)
Advise other staff regarding medical procedures necessary to promote optimal health for consumers.
Serve as an advocate and educator to both consum! ers and the general community regarding issues of mental illness, the role of stigma, consumer and citizens rights, and issues of cultural competence.
Provide consultation and education services and support to agencies and services involved with the consumer, to facilitate continuity and consistency and to potentiate consumer’s adjustment and success. Model cross-cultural CSP skills to outside professionals as needed.
Serve as program representative to JMHC staff committees as requested.
Implement and supervise projects or groups as assigned.
Supervise professional trainees as assigned.
Attend in-service training and conferences as authorized and directed.
