Under the general supervision of the Health Services Nursing Coordinator, the Nurse Clinician 4 (NC4) functions independently in an advanced clinical role giving expert direct and indirect care at all times for patients who have a variety of medical, phychiatric, dental, and nursing needs in the minimum security Correctional Centers. The NC4 functions as the health authority for each assigned Center and is responsible for each Center’s health care services, including arrangements for all levels of health care and providing quality, accessible health services to all inmates. Final decisions within medicine, dentistry, and psychiatry rest with the Bureau Directors of each health category respectively. This position utilizes the Bureau of Health Services standards and adheres to federal, state and local laws.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
CPR certification or ability to obtain certification.
Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Nurse in the State of Wisconsin.
This position requires regular travel to mimimum security Correctional Centers across Northern Wisconsin. This position is assigned six Centers and each Center requires a minimum of four site visits per year.

Knowledge and advanced skill in the application of nursing theory, nursing process and nursing standards of care.
Knowledge and skill in psychiatric and behavioral treatment modalities.
Skill in the application of nursing practice in meeting specific needs of adults, including emergency care.
Knowledge and skill in instructional methods and adult learning principles.
Knowledge of resource materials available for chronic disease management and teaching.
Knowledge of effective management techniques
Knowledge of program planning and evaluation.
Knowledge of training techniques.
Knowledge of group process and dynamics of working with individuals and groups.
Ability to work in collaboration with Nursing Managers, nursing staff and other members of the Health Services Unit.
Ability to work effectively with incarcerated adults and other disciplines in a team relationship.
Ability to work productively in an independent setting under general supervision.
Ability to maintain a helpful and understanding attitude toward the incarcerated patient exhibiting hostile or other negative behavioral traits.
Ability to work with a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population.
Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
