The graduate medical education lead faculty will help MCW fulfill its goal of creating 10 ! new residencies in Northeast and Central Wisconsin by 2018.
The key to the success of the MCW regional campuses is the availability of residency training positions in Green Bay and Central Wisconsin. Research indicates that the greatest determinant of where a physician will practice is where he or she conducted their residency training.
This is a key program development position, projected at .25 to .6 FTE.
Duties
Coordinate administrative efforts at both regional campuses in the creation and continuation of compliant ACGME programs in the Wisconsin physician workforce shortage specialties of primary care, general surgery, and psychiatry
Serve as the content expert and resource for hospital administration regarding the GME mission
Establish meaningful relationships with hospital and physician partners by immersing in the medical environment
Act as a liaison between the MCW campus in Milwaukee and community-based! campuses in Green Bay and Central Wisconsin
Collabor! ate with the MCWAH leadership in developing local freestanding GME infrastructure
Work with hospital system partners, Wisconsin Hospital Association, and other stakeholders to identify and secure funding to develop residency slots in northeast and central Wisconsin
Provide mentorship to new program directors and faculty in the supervision and education of residents
Explore opportunities for collaborative work with UW-Madison, Marshfield, Aspirus, and Gunderson on expanding the number of existing residency slots
Desired Outcomes
Fully accredited ACGME residency programs in internal medicine, family medicine, general surgery and psychiatry in both regional centers
Retention of at least 50% of regional campus students into the GME tracks
Develop innovative strategies to enhance rural medicine such as curricula for telemedicine and leadership of advanced care providers to be delivered at the residency level
! Recruit and retain faculty leaders in the core departments who are focused on the education of students and residents who desire careers in rural medicine
Become a nationally recognized program for the development of rural physicians and mechanisms of care
