JOB SUMMARY :
Under the direction of the medical director, staff psychiatrists work as an integrated member of their respective treatment teams to provide medical assessment and monitoring of client needs, and clinical consultation to other team members. They are responsible for the medical aspects of clinical care within the team, and for working with psychiatry residents and staff psychiatrists (Physician I) working in the team. This is a salaried position. This opening will initially include providing consulting services to outpatient services, Journey Mental Health Center’s (JMHC) community gero-psychiatry team, and a residential facility. All Psychiatrists at JMHC have job descriptions that tend to flex over time to provide services where they are most needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL:
Holds a current license to practice medicine in Wisconsin Has excellent basic skills in psychiatric practice, including psychopharmacology, psychotherapy and assessment of medical concerns that are part of mental health treatment Able to work effectively and collaboratively with other members of the clinical team Is eligible to sit for board exams in psychiatry according to the criteria of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Has active privileges in at least one hospital in Madison, Wisconsin Commitment to work towards improving cultural competence Commitment to work towards consumer involvement and empowerment Commitment to work with clients with both mental health and AODA issues
PREFERRED:
Experience in working in community based multidisciplinary programs Competence in working with culturally diverse clients Competence in developing a comprehensive psychosocial approach to client support and treatment Competence in both AODA and mental health treatment Competence in Spanish
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Part of this position will include providing care to a surrounding county. Direct clinical care, treatment planning and clinical consultation: (high responsibility, 70% of effort) Evaluate and treat patients as directed by the Medical Director and as required by the clinical situation. Work with the other members of the clinical team to develop and implement an effective treatment plan. Program development and quality assurance: (high responsibility, 20% of effort) Work with the program manager or coordinator to improve the quality of care provided by the program. Assist in improving the care provided by the Mental Health Center of Dane County Medical Backup for MHCDC: (high responsibility, 5% of effort) Help to provide medical/psychiatric backup for the other physicians employed by the Mental Health Center of Dane County. Provide medical/psychiatric backup for the emergency call system of the Mental Health System of Dane County. Training and supervision: (moderate responsibility, 5 % of effort) Participate in the training of students and staff. Note: All staff Physician IIs will be responsible for their own professional liability insurance unless clearly specified as part of a written agreement.
