Education: Possession of a degree from a medical school approved by the appropriate professional or regional accrediting agency; completion of an approved internship; completion of three years of approved residency or fellowship training in psychiatry; possession of or eligibility for a license to practice medicine in the State of Wisconsin. Applicants within their final 3 months of residency training shall be considered proof pending of training completion by appointing authority.
Experience: Experience in the field of psychiatry after completion of required residency is desirable.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles practices methods techniques literature and new developments in the field of psychiatry including psychopharmacology; skill in the examination diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric patients; ability to conduct and supervise psychotherapy; ability to assume major responsibility in a psychiatric service; administrative ability; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with personnel patients relatives of patients and agencies.
Duties: Under general direction in a community mental health center providing a comprehensive range of services to be responsible for the diagnosis care treatment and planning for psychiatric patients; to supervise and correlate the contributions of other medical and ancillary disciplines as they pertain to patient diagnosis care and treatment; to consult with outside physicians social workers relatives and agencies; to ensure that physical care needs of patients are being addressed by physical care staff or other providers; to provide referrals consultations and after care recommendations; to serve as CODE 4 (medical emergency) officer as assigned; to provide seclusion restraint suicide and homicide assessments; to maintain appropriate and timely medical record documentation; to supervise allied health professionals assigned to service/program area; to integrate service goals objectives and outcomes of patient care; to prepare for and testify at commitment / detention hearings; to ensure compliance with medical staff and hospital policies; to participate in professional review activities and serve on medical staff committees; to confer and work with other professional and lay staff on matters regarding proper and efficient operation of the clinical facility and program; to develop policies and standards for patient care; to participate in teaching training and research activities; to update professional knowledge on a continuous basis; to prepare and present professional papers and reports; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.
THE EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residence within the confines of the State of Wisconsin within six months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.
