The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, a Magnet facility, has two (2) part time openings for a Registered Nurse - Inpatient Adult Psychiatric Unit.

NOTE: The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate's education and experience and recommend the step at which the candidate will be placed in that specific grade. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

DUTIES:
Unit 2B is the inpatient adult geriatric psychiatric unit. It is a 15 bed unit with one seclusion room.

We accept eligible veterans from your adults to the frail elderly! (18-90+).

The patient population includes all types of psychopathologies, both acute and chronic, such as depression, schizophrenia, bi-polar affective disorder, dementia, personality disorders and PTSD.

The patient population also includes patients with addictive disorders and detoxification services are provided.

Many patients express suicidal or homicidal ideation and most have significant medical co-morbidity which complicates their diagnosis and treatment.

Nursing care is provided on 2B, 24 hours per day 7 days a week, and the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation is applied on an ongoing, systematic manner to all patients.

Care embodies a Multidisciplinary Treatment Team approach.

Our team is comprised of RN and LPN nursing staff, two Senior Staff Psychiatrists, psychiatric Resident Physicians, third year Medical Students, Occupational Therapy, Social Work and a Health Unit Coordin! ator.

Biological treatments include medications and electrocon! vulsive therapy.

Other treatments may include behavioral therapy, family therapy, group therapy, individual therapy.

Other treatments may include behavioral recreational therapy.

The ALOS is about 9 days.

The unit and nursing staff also support a variety of outpatient services for patients in the Mental Health Clinic, Community Support Program, Psychosocial Rehab Program and Addictive Disorders Program.

Work Schedule

:

Two (2) Part Time openings available, 30 hours per two week pay period. Day/PM and PM/Nights; may include rotation.

Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

Physical Requirements:
Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients. There may also be extended periods of sitting.

QUA! LIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
***BSN Preferred

Must be a citizen of the United States

Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency

and

accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)

Must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing

Must be proficient in spoken and written English

Applicant's educat! ion and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a! Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing:

Education/Experience Requirements:

Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.

Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Dipl! oma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.

·

Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related fiel! d with no experience.

Nurse III - Master's degree ! in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
