This position offers an opportunity to work in a Nurse Prescriber role with a multi-discipline Behavioral Health Team. This would be a dynamic role case managing patients and pre! scribing medication, while providing brief Psychotherapy. The NP role would have a combination of conducting clinical rounds on patients within a Behavioral Health Unit, Day Treatment and/or Clinic Programs.

JOB SUMMARY Assess patient data and performs patient examinations using appropriate guidelines developed by the physician, and in accordance with clinic policies and procedures. Maintains timely flow of patients. Provides patient and family education. Documents patient care and related information. Follows up on patient care as needed. Reviews and maintains charts. May perform telephone triaging of patients. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Independent APNP must work collaboratively with a physician. If “incident to†billing process applies, the APNP would document this collaboration by having the physician co-sign the progress ! note from each service delivered. The APNP may practice within! their areas of competence based upon education, training, experience and scope of license. Services to be offered include the following: Must follow prescribing guidelines regarding Schedule I and Schedule II medications as described in WI Administrative Code Chapter N 8.
Complies with all credentialing and reimbursement processes relevant to Mercy Options billing system. Receives cases from a psychiatrist who has completed an evaluation of the patient and recommended APNP management of the patient (Incident to) Individual one-on-one cases should always include a component of medication management. Psychotherapy when indicated may also be provided by the APNP, in conjunction with medication management. Patients are scheduled with the APNP through the reception desk. At or before the first appointment with the patient, the APNP shall review the psychiatric evaluation, and consult with the Psychiatrist as needed.
At each appointment/time of service the APNP:
Ø Determines which physician is present in the building (only if “incident to†process applies).
Ø Evaluates the patient’s status
Ø Performs interventions
Ø Prescribe appropriate medications
Ø Complete billing documentation/charge sheets.
Ø Follow the Medical Records process according to clinic policies and procedures.
Ø Documents the service on the Physician Progress Notes
Ø Completes the billing sheet, using the “incident to†stamp (if “incident to†process) (If there is not a physician in the building, the APNP would bill independently.
Ø Forwards the patients’ medical record to the “incident to’ physician for co-signature. Submits on own and timely if independent billing practice applies.
When a patient’s primary problem or diagnosis changes, the APNP and/or Physician must initiate a psychiatric consult or re-evaluation to develop a new treatment plan focused on the new problem or diagnosis. The ! APNP completes 90-day treatment plan reviews and case manages their pat! ients throughout the course of the treatment when a therapist is not involved in the case. The APNP attends psychiatric supervision as needed to review cases and documents this supervision in the patient’s medical record. The APNP may be asked to attend variable department/administrative meetings as necessary.
AGE OF PATIENT POPULATION Child, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric
EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Possession of current applicable RN license (WI or IL), AND the Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) license. Completion of 3,000 hours with 1,000 hours in face-to-facc. Must possess a Drug Enforcement Administration of Controlled Substance Registration. Certificate (DEA). Meets the requirements determined by the State of WI or IL or to perform duties defined as those of Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber. Specifically, to Behavioral Health must have the appropriate credentials as described in the Wisconsin Admini! strative Code Chapter N 8 and HFS61.96 .
